Made in 1939, the Golden Year of Hollywood, Destry Rides Again helped launch Jimmy Stewart's career and made Marlene Dietrich an American icon. Harry Destry was a rough-and-tumble fighter who never lost a battle. But after six years in jail for a robbery he didn't commit, he comes back a changed man. The townsfolk believe he's beaten. They think all the fight's gone right out of him. And that's exactly what Destry wants them to think. Because that's the way he alone will serve justice to the twelve men who framed him.

This rough-and-tumble Western pits Harry Destry against the twelve jurors who sent him to prison for a crime he didn't commit. The thoughtful study of human nature, confrontation and retribution is enhanced by the masterful narration of John Randolph-Jones. His deep, husky voice sets the tone for the male cast of characters, but he's also able to soften it for the character of Charlotte Dangerfield. It's easy to envision a drunken Harry whooping and hollering in a bar scene, as well as the tentative, broken man who returns from prison. The many plot turns in this enjoyable Western will keep listeners entranced to the end. C.W. (c)AudioFile, Portland, Maine
