Enigma, a contemporary erotic romance novel, tells the story of Mark and Lucy Fuller, who believe they are happily married until a conversation with best friend, Jody leaves Lucy wondering whether there is a whole new side to their marriage that they are missing out on and that is their sexual fantasies. Intrigued by a club called Enigma that Jody has mentioned, Lucy visits the proprietor, Sarah Montgomery, a lady who likes a sexy naked man to bring her daily cup of tea, and they discuss how her and Mark's fantasies could be beneficial to their marriage if they were to indulge in them. Mark and Lucy take it in turns to indulge in each other's fantasy, which are carefully planned with Sarah. Each scenario usually involves potent sexual tension between their fantasy characters and the tension is resolved in a very satisfying way each time, with Mark and Lucy getting to play at being gentry, voyeurs, a kiss-a gram, and variety of characters. Mark has an especially gratifying experience when he is kidnapped and is at the mercy of a dominant woman; a role Lucy finds quite inspiring and relishes enacting out. It is after this particularly arousing and fun fantasy that a dramatic turning point occurs in their story and they decide to try and conceive a fourth child.Alongside Mark and Lucy's sexual adventures, there is Lucy's friend, Jody who splits with her boyfriend and starts a more positive relationship with one of Mark's friends. They are two minor characters but may become future members of Enigma. At the end of the book Mark and Lucy are delighted when Lucy is pregnant, but they also receive an intriguing offer of employment from Sarah at Enigma, an offer they both decide to accept.
